10 Best 7-Eleven Foods in Japan (Must-Try Combini Picks)
If you’ve never been to Japan, here’s something you might not expect:
Convenience store food is actually… good.
In fact, places like 7-Eleven Japan (7/11) offer some of the best quick meals you’ll find anywhere — with quality that’s far beyond what you’d expect from a typical convenience store.
Menus change regularly with the seasons, which means there’s always something new to try.
Here are 10 of my favourite 7-Eleven food items in Japan — a mix of snacks, meals, and desserts that are genuinely worth picking up.
🍰 Cheesecake Sandwich
One of my favourite sweet snacks.
Two fluffy pancake-style buns with a creamy cheesecake filling.
Made with dairy from Hokkaido, which is famous for its high-quality milk and desserts.
Verdict: Perfect with coffee. Simple, but very well done.

🥪 Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Capers Sandwich
A premium option.
The salmon is rich and clean (no strong fishy smell), paired with light cream cheese and soft bread.
Verdict: Expensive for the size (~$4), but high quality. Worth trying if you see it.

🍩 Chocolate Donut with Almonds
A chocolate donut topped with almonds — but the real highlight is the almond cream filling inside.
Verdict: A solid breakfast treat or quick sugar fix.

🍫 Custard Cream Éclair
I’ve tried éclairs across Europe — and this one genuinely surprised me.
Verdict: Not overly sweet, perfectly balanced, and incredibly creamy.
One of the best I’ve had anywhere.

🥗 Chicken Salad & Boiled Eggs
Doesn’t sound exciting — but it is.
Fresh, crisp lettuce, juicy chicken, and perfectly cooked eggs with a soft centre.
Verdict: Great high-protein option. Surprisingly fresh for a convenience store.

🌠Sausage & Mustard Bun
Simple but addictive.
Fluffy bread, sausage, ketchup, and sweet mustard.
Verdict: One of those items you end up buying regularly.

🍙 Beef & Kimchi Rice Ball
A Korean-inspired onigiri with bold flavour.
Beef filling combined with kimchi-seasoned rice.
Verdict: Great quick snack with a bit of spice.

🥪 Steamed Chicken & Coleslaw Sandwich
Packed with quality ingredients and around 23g of protein.
Verdict: Light, filling, and one of the better “healthy” options.

🍙 Tuna Mayonnaise Rice Ball
A true classic.
You’ll find dozens of rice ball options in Japan, but this one stands out.
Verdict: The best onigiri in my opinion. Simple, creamy, and consistently good.

🍜 Michelin-Star Instant Ramen
Created in collaboration with Nakiryu in Tokyo.
Verdict: Doesn’t feel like instant ramen at all.
Tastes closer to something you’d get in a proper ramen shop.
Check out Nakiryu here.

Final Thoughts
7-Eleven Japan sets a different standard for convenience store food.
What stands out:
- Consistent quality
- Seasonal variety
- Surprisingly good desserts
If you’re visiting Japan, don’t overlook combini food — it’s part of the experience.
